And that was the era when the world saw the beginning of a highly optimistic venture that just went off with skyrocketing ambitions! Following the major successes it experienced with Howdy Orange drink, the founder decided to try out his luck with other popular flavors like lemons or limes.
C.L. Grigg actually spent over 2 years trying out more than 11 unique formulas. He was advancing well with his quest for ‘the’ drink, which was sufficiently refreshing and proved virtually irresistible to everybody in Missouri as well as the whole world in general. And it was in late 1930s when the world saw the bubbliest drink in the history of human race. And just imagine the public response! People started savoring the taste of the caramel colored lemon-lime soda. The then Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda was selling really well in due course of time!
As the popularity of this drink saw a huge growth, the unique name of this drink was traded off with something shorter and sweeter! So the Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda found its new brand name – 7UP! The Early advertisements of 7UP featured a rather winged 7UP sign with a copy reading “a glorified drink in… 7 natural flavors blended into a savory, flavory drink…wallop”
And most soft-drink manufacturers today can’t help envying the sky-high success of this drink. Actually, it was the major success of this brand that inspired its owner to transform its ‘so formal’ and ‘official’ name (The Howdy Corporation) into the 7Up Company. Back in the late 1940s, the brand had already become the 3rd best-selling success in the global soft drink industry. Today, the company proceeding hand in hand with its iconic 7UP brand, has established its strong foothold unlike most other competitors in the soft drink industry.
